Dr Chris Mays is Senior Curator of Palaeobotany (Natural History Museum Vienna), and Adjunct Lecturer & Leader of the Mass Extinction Group (University College Cork).

His research focusses on the effects of extreme warming events on land ecosystems, and advanced fossil 3-D imaging, or ‘virtual palaeontology’.

In his own words: “I study fossil plants to reconstruct the changes of past ecosystems during extreme warming events. These can tell us a lot about the long-term effects we may, and may not, expect to see in our presently warming world.”
