- Research Fellow in Landscape Ecology, Western Sydney University
Chris is a landscape ecologist and conservation biologist whose research examines how biotic interactions and abiotic disturbances shape ecosystem dynamics, with a strong focus on developing tools for environmental and ecosystem management. His work spans ecology, wildfire ecology and risk management, including studies on how fire regimes influence fuel loads, carbon sequestration, floristic diversity and fauna–flora interactions, as well as how species loss affects ecological resilience and biodiversity. He has conducted research across arid, semi-arid, savanna and forested biomes in Australia and South Africa, using landscape-scale field surveys, experiments, remote-sensing products, historical datasets and spatial and statistical analyses. His career includes research roles at the University of Sydney, the University of Wollongong, Aarhus University and Western Sydney University. He is currently a Research Fellow within the Bushfire and Natural Hazard Research Centre at the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment (Western Sydney University).
