- Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Limerick
Dr Chloe Boyle is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Limerick. Her research sits at the intersection of health psychology, clinical psychology, and psychoneuroimmunology, focusing on how inflammatory processes shape reward and social–affective functioning, and how these changes confer vulnerability to depression. She uses experimental inflammatory challenge studies alongside daily diary, neuroimaging, and molecular approaches to identify moderators of risk and targets for intervention.
She received her PhD in Health Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, completed postdoctoral training at the UCLA Norman Cousins Center for Psychoneuroimmunology, and then served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in UCLA’s Department of Psychiatry & Biobehavioral Sciences, supported by a five-year K01 award from the National Institutes of Health / National Institute on Aging. During this period, she developed the Aging and Reward System Response to Inflammation and Anxiety (ARIA) Laboratory and examined how inflammation alters neural reward processing in older adults with anxiety. She maintains active collaborations with UCLA, including work with the UCLA Menopause Clinic examining whether hormonal context shapes affective sensitivity to inflammation during perimenopause.
At UL, Chloe is a member of the Centre for Social Issues in Research (CSI-R) and the Study of Anxiety, Stress, and Health Laboratory (SASHLab),
