Charlotte Haines Lyon

(She/Her)

My undergraduate degree was in Informal and Community Education - which also served as a professional qualification in Youth and Community work. My Masters degree was in Philosophy and religion, in which I researched the ethics of citizenship education. I started my PhD in 2012 and researched Democratic Parent Engagement in Primary schools - exploring how parents can shape school and education policy.
I have worked for York St John since 2016, in Children, Young People and Education and teach across a wide range of degrees, including the Undergraduate suite, MA Education and the Professional Doctorate, as well as supervising doctoral research.
My research involves working with young people to carryout their own research projects, including Toilet Talk which looks to improve School Toilets, and various community projects.
I have worked in the charity and education sector over the last 30 years and was a school governor for 14 years, at a primary school.
