Charlie Ranscombe

A/Prof Charlie Ranscombe (Swinburne University of Technology) is a design researcher specialising in human-centred product development and the integration of emerging technologies such as generative AI within products and design practice. His research bridges engineering and design to create innovative, user-centred, and commercially viable products. Charlie has secured over $2 million in research funding and translated research on AI-driven customisation of in-ear devices into a $35 million commercial healthcare venture. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and holds editorial review roles across five Tier 1 design journals. As Program Leader for the Human-Centred Product Development cluster in Swinburne’s Centre for Design Innovation, he leads a diverse research team that has achieved major growth in research outputs and income. He has supervised 12 PhD students and his current work examines how emerging AI tools can revolutionise design and development processes.
