Professor Charles Sampford graduated top of his class in Politics, Philosophy and Law from Melbourne University before combining those disciplines in his Oxford DPhil in 1986. He moved to Griffith as Foundation Dean and Professor of Law at Griffith University in 1991. Since 2004 he has been Director of the Institute for Ethics, Governance and Law (a joint initiative of the United Nations University, Griffith, QUT, ANU, OP Jindal University (Delhi) and the Centre for Asian integrity (Manila).
He is President of the International Institute for Public Ethics and he is Convenor of the Global Integrity Summit which held its first meeting in September.
He has published 124 articles and essays and completed 30 books and edited collections. These includes interdisciplinary work on the ethics and governance of corporations, professions, public agencies and international organisations - as well as issues of multi-level governance such as the Global Financial Crisis.
Charles has been consulted by business, government, and various parliaments – including the principal legal advisor to the Queensland Scrutiny of Legislation Committee (1995-2002). He is also a barrister and a director of two SMEs.
