I have a diverse academic background, starting with nursing (2003-2006) and anthropology (2006-2008). I pursued a research scholarship after completing my master's studies in physical and forensic anthropology in 2009, joining the research group CTS-436 "Psychosocial and Cross-Cultural Aspects of Health and Disease." Following my PhD from the University of Granada, I earned a psychology degree from the National Distance University (2014-2021). Other academic training: M.S in Health Care for the Promotion of People's Autonomy and Attention to End-of-Life Processes. University expert in statistics applied to health sciences and University Expert in qualitative research with Atlas.ti.
Throughout my education and career, I've seamlessly blended training, professional practice, research, and teaching.
My research primarily have focused on two main areas, with a special interest in the study of stigma during the last years:
-Illness, chronic dependency, end-of-life processes, and mental health stigma. This involves evaluating and intervening in loss, grief, suicide and chronic/end-of-life care, exploring the impact of emotional processes on behavior.
-Educational innovation, particularly the effectiveness of simulation in skill acquisition and, instrument development with clinimetric techniques.
I have authored over 40 JCR-indexed articles and participated in 9 funded research projects, including 2 European projects. I have actively participated in national and international conferences in the fields of nursing and psychology. I've also been involved in organizing and evaluating conferences and congresses. I have completed 3 research stays abroad, totaling 9 months (Coimbra, Kent, and Hertfordshire). Research six-year periods: 1 (2011-2018). Effective 01-01-2021.
I received the Nursing in Development Award in 2015 (PhD category) and was a finalist in the 2022 Nursing in Development Awards for the project "Simulation for Nurse Mental Health Education". Additionally, I received the National Conference of Nursing Deans' award for an educational innovation project in the area of mental health (2021).
Recently, I was honored with the research award for the best project presented by individuals over 35 years old by the Official Nursing College of Málaga for my work titled "Evolution of the concept of mental health literacy: a study through exploratory review and the Delphi method." I also received the 3rd scholarship in the 1st edition of Mental Health Scholarships by the General Nursing Council for the project "Beyond Stigma: a qualitative study on the impact of the public perception of mental disorders on individuals with schizophrenia," which is currently ongoing.
Professionally, I gained experience through contracts with various health services and academic positions, ultimately becoming a Senior Lecturer at the University of Malaga in 2022 and Academic Director of the affiliated nursing center 'Virgen de la Paz' in Ronda, with experience in management tasks.
Currently, I coordinate and teach courses in mental health (undergraduate and postgraduate) and supervise 4 doctoral theses in the field of mental health, as well as 2 master's dissertation projects related to exploring the stigma towards mental disorders.
