- Professor of Sociology, Emmanuel College
I teach, research and write on the areas of race, ethnicity, immigration, and civic engagement. I have published three books-- Beyond White Picket Fences: Evolution of an American Town (Russell Sage, 2025), The Experiences of Women of Color in an Elite US High School (Palgrave, 2017), and From Immigrant to Naturalized Citizen (LFB, 2006). I have also published work on these topics in the International Migration Review; Contexts; Migration Letters; the Journal of International Migration and Integration; and Race, Ethnicity and Education, among other peer-reviewed journals. My work has been funded by The Spencer Foundation, The Russell Sage Foundation, The Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and the National Collegiate Honors Council.
