Catherine Gibbons is an exercise physiologist interested in the role of tonic and episodic peptides in the control of appetite and obesity. She began her research career with an MSc in Sport and Exercise Nutrition at Loughborough University before moving to the University of Leeds to complete her PhD entitled ‘Tonic and Episodic Peptides and Appetite Control in Response to Nutrients and Exercise in Obese Adults’. She has experience working on large-scale exercise research projects using a psychobiological systems approach in order to investigate exercise-induced compensatory eating. in her postdocs year, Catherine was been involved in two collaborative EU FP7 projects “Full4Health” and “SATIN” as senior research fellow and "DAPHNE" where she was Principal Investigator. Since 2013 she has been involved in three international pharmaceutical projects investigating anti-diabetic and anti-obesity drugs. At the end of 2015, she progressed to Lecturer in Physical Activity and Energy Balance.
My research expertise and reputation falls under two main themes 1) the measurement, analysis and interpretation of gut peptides in appetite control and energy balance and 2) sedentary behaviour and physical activity and their implications for body composition and energy balance.
