Caroline Flanagan

Caroline Flanagan is the Head of the School of Agriculture, Animal and Environmental Sciences at Writtle, part of ARU, where she leads multidisciplinary teams and drives strategic development across teaching, research, and industry engagement. Coming from a farming background—primarily poultry and sheep—she brings genuine sector insight and a deep understanding of rural, environmental, and animal-related industries.
With extensive experience teaching applied sciences across the broad spectrum of land‑based and animal‑related disciplines—including agriculture, animal science, and areas such as veterinary physiotherapy—Caroline is committed to ensuring programmes remain relevant, applied, and aligned with evolving industry needs. She is passionate about enhancing the student experience, championing high-quality teaching, meaningful practical learning, and strong support for student success and personal development.
