Carol Ballantine

My PhD explored narratives of violence in the lives of African refugee women living in Ireland. I used creative, participatory and narrative methods to understand the meanings of violence in context, and the ways in which victim-survivors and their communities navigated such experiences through their migration and resettlement journeys.
Before completing my PhD, I worked in the field of international development, and I continue to provide expert consultancy to NGOs and intergovernmental agencies on the topics of gender, sexualities, and equalities.
I have lectured on undergraduate and masters programmes in gender, sociology, international politics and development, equality studies and art.
