Carmen Galán-Marín

Carmen Galán-Marín is Professor of Architecture at the University of Seville (Andalusia, Spain), where she focuses on sustainable construction technologies, climate responsive design, and the environmental performance of buildings and urban spaces. Her research advances understanding of microclimate dynamics, including urban heat island mitigation and passive cooling strategies, with a special focus on the role of courtyard architecture in enhancing thermal resilience in Mediterranean climates.

Carmen is Principal Investigator of the research group TEP206 SATH Sustainability in Architecture, Technology and built Heritage, and has led multiple national and regional research projects, including three major Spanish National R&D Plan projects and collaborations with industry and technology centres. Her work combines advanced simulation techniques, innovative materials research, and multiscale environmental analysis to support the development of climate responsive buildings and urban spaces.
