- Environmental Scientist in the Geography department, University of KwaZulu-Natal
Dr Carla Higgs has a PhD in Environmental Science. Her thesis was titled: ‘Developing an Equity and Equality Assessment Method for Water Resources Allocation in South Africa’.
Her research tackles one of South Africa’s most pressing and complex challenges: equitable access to water. Dr Higgs has looked at three river catchments in South Africa to develop a clear and practical understanding of ‘water equity’ and translate this concept into measurable indicators.
She has received funding from the uMngeni-uThukela Water Chair in Water Resources Research and Innovation.
