Carl Bridge grew up in Sydney where he took his BA in History at the University of Sydney. He has both a PhD in History and a Diploma in Education from the Flinders University of South Australia and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. He taught in the History Departments at Flinders and the University of New England, was Director of the Menzies Centre for Australian Studies, King's College London, 1997-2014, and is now Professor of Australian History at King's College London. He has held visiting fellowships at Churchill College and Clare Hall, Cambridge, the National Library of Australia, and the Australian Prime Ministers Centre, Canberra. His current research falls into four areas: the history of Australian diplomacy and defence; war and society in twentieth century Australia; Australian historiography; and the history of the British world.
