Carina is a lawyer and PhD candidate in Public Law at the Centre of Criminology at the University of Cape Town. She holds an LLB and LLM from Stellenbosch University, is an admitted attorney and has worked for the United Nations in various capacities.
Her current research is focused on responses to transnational organized crime at sea. She has done extensive research on heroin trafficking along the southern heroin trafficking route stretching from Afghanistan to East and Southern Africa, ivory poaching and trafficking from East Africa to Asia, as well as the global response to Somali piracy.Her research interests include public law, international law, criminal law and organized crime.
