Dr Brydon Wang is a legal scholar specialising in the regulation of automation, datafication and AI in infrastructure delivery. His research focuses on how technologies such as large language models (LLMs), smart contracts in construction, and digital systems are reshaping legal reasoning, professional responsibility, and the transparency of decision-making. He works across construction law, technology regulation, and data governance, with a focus on climate-resilient urban and offshore development (including floating cities, buoyant urbanism and floating wind farms).
Brydon is dually qualified in law and architecture. He has practised as a technology and construction lawyer at Allens, and previously worked in contract administration on award-winning public infrastructure projects. His research spans digital twins, blockchain, and marine urbanism. He is lead editor of Automating Cities (Springer, 2021) and co-editor of Large Floating Structures (2015). His forthcoming edited collection, Large Floating Solutions, will be published by Springer in July 2025.
His PhD on trustworthiness in automated decision-making (including AI) and the law received the 2022 Executive Dean’s Commendation for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis at QUT. He is also the recipient of the 2024 QUT Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Early Career Teaching, the 2022 UQ Faculty Award for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and co-recipient of the 2023 Law School Award for Leadership in Teaching Innovation. His work has been featured on ABC Radio National’s "Future Tense" and Seeker’s documentary "How Close Are We to Living in the Ocean?"
