Dr Briony Towers lives and works on the unceded land of the Woiwurrung and Boonwurrung people of the Kulin Nation. She is a Research Fellow in Child-Centred Disaster Risk Reduction at the Centre for Urban Research at RMIT University. Her PhD in Sociocultural Psychology at the University of Tasmania involved an in-depth investigation of children's knowledge of vulnerability and resilience to wildfire risk in southeastern Australia. She has a particular interest in the root causes of disaster risk and how these can be addressed through place-based critical pedagogies that promote children's genuine participation in policy, research and practice. Briony is currently the lead investigator of the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC project 'Building Best Practice in Child-Centred Disaster Risk Reduction'. She also a member of the Australian Institute of Disaster Resilience - Disaster Resilience Education Strategy Group.
