Dr. Bright Alozie is an Associate Professor in the Black Studies Department and Coordinator of the African Studies Program at Portland State University. He holds a Ph.D. in African History from West Virginia University and is an affiliate faculty member in the Departments of History and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Portland State University. As a historian, storyteller, and scholar-teacher, his research explores colonial and sociopolitical history, women, gender, and sexuality studies, war and memory politics, digital and oral history, and social movements within African and Black history. At Portland State, he teaches courses on African history, cultures, women and gender in Africa, protest and resistance, and research methods. Dr. Alozie is the author of numerous scholarly articles and book chapters, as well as the recent monograph, Petitions, Petition Writing, and the Colonial State in Igboland, Nigeria: African Voices in Ink. He is currently working on three forthcoming books: Black Voices and the African Diasporic Experience: An Oral History of African Immigrants in Oregon, USA (2027), Africa, My Africa: A Visual History of Africa for Kids (2025), and a poetry collection titled Inheritance of the Spoken: Africa’s Voices Reclaimed (2025).
