Brett Cohen is an honorary professor in the department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Cape Town, where he also attained his PhD. He has worked on climate and sustainability-related projects in South Africa, Australia, the United Kingdom, Kenya, Lesotho, Botswana, India, Chile and Peru, in both academia and the private sector.
Prof Cohen currently also works as an independent sustainability consultant based out of Cape Town. Consulting services and academic research interests include climate risks and opportunities, greenhouse gas emissions accounting and modelling, scenario and futures planning, technology evaluation, industrial ecology, decision support, development, workshop facilitation, and strategy development. His work draws on experience from chemical process engineering, multi criteria decision analysis techniques, network theories, natural systems and economics.
He is a C2 NRF rated researcher, and IPCC author on the sixth and seventh Assessment Reports. He has published over 50 papers in the peer reviewed academic literature.
