Professor of environmental and resource economics conducting research on climate change economics and policy. My research is focused largely on the interactions between forested ecosystems, our management of those ecosystems, and the atmosphere. Annually forests sequester enough carbon in the US to offset about 10% of gross emissions. Globally, emissions from deforestation are about 10% of gross emissions. I study how human management affects those numbers, and how climate change and other anthropogenic factors will alter the sink/source capacity of forests. I also study water quality and agricultural conservation policy in the US, examining the efficiency of various government programs to achieve reductions in water pollution.
