I work with smallholder farmers in Africa to find ways for them to utilise improved agricultural practices, with particular focus on sustainable intensification technologies. I do this as I believe we have the practices and technologies to feed the world, they just are not being used.
My current research focuses on the sustainable intensification of maize-legume systems in Eastern and Southern Africa, from Ethiopia to Mozambique. We use large quantitative data sets to identify themes and then explore these themes with semi-structured interviews with community members (both farm and non-farm). This provides a unique depth of understanding and new perspectives to understand why improved agricultural practices have not been widely embraced.
