Blessing Akombi-Inyang

(She/Her)
  • Senior Lecturer | Global Health, UNSW

Dr Blessing Akombi-Inyang is a global health researcher at UNSW Sydney, specialising in maternal, adolescent and child health, nutrition, and health inequalities. Her research focuses on improving health outcomes among vulnerable and underserved populations, particularly in low-resource settings.

Her work spans childhood undernutrition, the double and triple burden of malnutrition, maternal and child health, and the social and structural factors that shape health outcomes. A key focus of her research is translating evidence into practical, community-based interventions that can improve health and reduce inequalities. She has led community-based initiatives in Nigeria aimed at increasing the uptake of evidence-based interventions and improving health outcomes.

Blessing is co-founder of the Global Maternal and Child Health Research Collaboration (GloMACH), a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional research collaboration focused on generating evidence to inform public health policy and practice. She is an Academic Editor for BMC Public Health and PLOS ONE and contributes to international research collaborations, including the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Collaborator Network and the Local Burden of Disease Double Burden of Malnutrition Collaborators Network.

Her research interests are increasingly focused on migrant health in Australia, particularly nutrition and lifestyle transitions following migration and their implications for chronic disease prevention and maternal and child health.

She is based at the School of Population Health, UNSW Medicine & Health, where she contributes to teaching and research across global health, non-communicable diseases, and child and adolescent health.
