- Professor of Literary History, University of Alberta
I teach and research eighteenth-century British literature, feminist and sexuality studies, narrative theory and critical finance studies in the Department of English and Film Studies. I have published two academic books: Downward Mobility: The Form of Capital in the Sentimental Novel (Johns Hopkins UP, 2020) and The Seduction Narrative in Britain, 1747-1800 (Cambridge, 2009). I'm currently Literary Director of The Orlando Project: A History of Women's Writing in the British Isles, one of the longest running collaborative digital humanities projects which publishes an ongoing textbase of 1,400+ encoded profiles of women writers and contextual material with Cambridge University Press. I have expertise in diverse areas including: unknown stories of women literary trailblazers, queer history, the cultural origins of capitalism, women writers before Jane Austen, and a variety of subjects in gender and sexuality studies.
