Dr Bin Lu is a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian National University’s School of Engineering. He holds a PhD in Renewable Energy and both Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering.

His research interests include energy system modelling, renewable energy resource assessment, geographic information system algorithm development, and power system analysis. Dr Lu is a co-recipient of the 2018 Eureka Prize for Environmental Research, for his invention of the STORES Geographic Information System algorithm that led to the discovery of vast hydro storage resources to support renewable energy transition.

Dr Lu’s FIRM energy modelling tool has been widely applied across Australia and the Asia-Pacific to support national and regional renewable energy planning. He has received multiple research awards, including the International Hydrogen Research Fellowship, ACAP Fellowship, ANU Grand Challenge Fellow, and APA. His research on 100% renewable energy futures has reached a global audience of over 15 million.
