Bill Sherman is Director of the Warburg Institute and Professor of Cultural History in the University of London's School of Advanced Study. He was founding Director of the University of York's Centre for Renaissance & Early Modern Studies and also served as Director of Research & Collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A). He has published widely on the history of books and readers, the plays of Shakespeare and contemporaries and the relationship between knowledge and power. His current book projects include a study of visual marginalia called 'The Reader's Eye' and a history of codes and ciphers called 'The Cryptographic Renaissance.'
