Bethany Simmonds

(She, her)

I am a sociologist of ageing, health and the end of life. I am interested in examining the interactions between global, national, and individual level analyses, exploring how (embodied) experiences are produced by discursive and institutional change, contingent on the spaces older people are located in.

I am Senior Lecturer and Programme Lead for Sociology at the University of Aberystwyth with nearly twenty years’ experience and expertise in researching age and ageism, particularly in health and social care settings. I am co-convener of the Death, Dying and Bereavement Study Group for the British Sociological Association, I founded the 'Sociology of gender, disability, care and precarity’ research group and steering committee member at the Centre for Excellence in Rural Health Research, an affiliated member of The Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research, Data and Methods (WISERD) and a member of the Centre for Ageing and Dementia Research (CADR)..
