Bernur Açıkgöz

Prof. Dr. Bernur Açıkgöz attended Ankara Finance High School and continued her undergraduate studies at Dokuz Eylül University, Department of Finance. She received her master’s degree in financial law from Dokuz Eylül University, and in 2006, she was awarded her Ph.D. degree from Dokuz Eylül University Department of Public Finance, with a thesis focused on poverty and development.
In 2006, she received the Harvard University Project scholarship, allowing her to work as a visiting professor at Harvard University. In 2009, she was awarded a scholarship from the Swiss Government for a post-doctorate in economics at the University of Neuchatel, Switzerland, where she also taught courses at Bern University. During this period, she began working in the fields of experimental economics and game theory. For three consecutive years, she served as a guest lecturer in the economics laboratory of Montpellier University in Montpellier, France. Following this, she visited Missouri University, Indiana University, and Arizona University with a scholarship from Missouri University. She later served as a visiting professor at the University of East Anglia and took courses at Exeter University in the UK with support from a TUBITAK scholarship.
Between 1996 and 2017, Prof. Dr. Açıkgöz gained extensive experience working in both government and academia. She began her career as a Revenue Specialist at the Ministry of Finance, where she developed a strong foundation in public finance and taxation, gaining valuable insights into fiscal policy and economic regulation. Her role allowed her to contribute directly to tax policy analysis and implementation, which later informed her research in public economics and economic policy. In addition to her work at the Ministry, she also served as a faculty member in the Department of International Trade at Celal Bayar University, where she taught various courses related to international trade and finance. This dual experience in both the practical and academic aspects of finance and trade enabled her to bring a well-rounded perspective to her teaching and research, bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. Currently, Prof. Dr. Açıkgöz is a faculty member in the Department of Public Economics at Izmir Katip Celebi University. She also teaches at the Department of International Trade and Finance at Izmir University of Economics and (online) at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at Poznan University of Life Sciences, Poland.
