Bernard Capp is Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Warwick, where he taught from 1968 to 2020. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and the author of eight books: The Fifth Monarchy Men (Faber, 1972), Astrology and the Popular Press: English Almanacs 1500-1800 (Faber, 1979); Cromwell's Navy (OUP, 1989), The World of John Taylor the Water-poet (OUP, 1994); When Gossips Meet: Women, Family and Neighbourhood in Early Modern England (OUP, 2003); England's Culture Wars: Puritan Reformation and its Enemies in the Interregnum, 1649-1660 (OUP, 2012); The Ties that Bind. Siblings, Family, and Society in Early Modern England (OUP, 2018); British Slaves and Barbary Corsairs 1580-1750 (OUP, 2022). He is also the recipient of two Festschriften: The Extraordinary and the Everyday in Early Modern England (2010) and From the Margins to the Centre in Seventeenth Century England (2025)
