Benni Yusriza Hasbiyalloh

Benni is a PhD researcher at University of Sydney and lecturer in International Relations at Paramadina University with a specialisation in labour migration, maritime governance, and human security. His research critically examines the contested implementation of international labour norms - particularly the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) and ILO Convention 188 - within Indonesia’s fishing and seafaring sectors. Drawing on International Relations theory, critical migration studies, and regulatory governance approaches, Benni analyses how forced labour and human trafficking are perpetuated and challenged in Indonesia and Southeast Asia’s fishing industries. He is currently developing a multi-scalar framework that integrates norm translation, validation, and contestation to explore the dynamics of decent work in the maritime domain.
