Benjamin Perrin is a law professor at the University of British Columbia and leads the UBC AI & Criminal Justice Initiative. He is a member of the UBC Centre for Artificial Intelligence Decision-Making and Action (CAIDA). He served in the Prime Minister’s Office as in-house legal counsel and lead criminal justice advisor, and was also a law clerk at the Supreme Court of Canada. Professor Perrin is a national best-selling author. His books include "Indictment: The Criminal Justice System on Trial" (University of Toronto Press, 2023); "Overdose: Heartbreak and Hope in Canada’s Opioid Crisis" (Penguin Random House, 2022); and "Victim Law: The Law of Victims of Crime in Canada" (Thomson Reuters, 2017). He has testified as an expert witness before legislative committees and regularly provides commentary in the media. He lives in Vancouver, BC.
