Benjamin J. Richardson

Benjamin J. Richardson is Professor of Environmental Law in the Faculty of Law at the University of Tasmania. He studied at Macquarie University and the Australian National University, and has had an extensive international academic career with appointments in law faculties in Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. Outside of academia, Professor Richardson has worked in policy and consultancy roles with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service in Sydney and with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Kathmandu and Nairobi. Professor Richardson’s research encompasses a broad range of areas, including climate change law, socially responsible investment, corporate social responsibility, and Indigenous legal issues. His publications include numerous influential books, such as The Art of Environmental Law (Bloomsbury, 2019), Time and Environmental Law (Cambridge University Press, 2017), Company Law and Sustainability (Cambridge University Press, 2015, with Beate Sjåfjell), Local Climate Change Law (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2012), Indigenous Peoples and the Law (Hart Publishing, 2009, with K. McNeil and S. Imai), Socially Responsible Investment Law (Oxford University Press, 2008).
