Belén Riveiro Rodríguez

  • Profesora Titular de Universidad en el Área de Mecánica de Medios Continuos y Teoría de Estructuras, Universidade de Vigo

I am an Associate Professor in Structural Engineering at the University of Vigo, where my research focuses on structural monitoring and assessment of civil infrastructure. My work lies at the intersection of engineering, digital technologies, and sustainability, aiming to develop innovative tools that enhance the resilience of bridges and transport networks under changing environmental conditions. I hold a PhD with European Mention and have completed research stays at institutions such as Cambridge, TU Delft, and the University of Minho.
Over the past decade, I’ve led and contributed to several national and international projects, including Horizon Europe initiatives on infrastructure resilience. My academic output includes more than 150 peer-reviewed publications, seven patents (four in active use), and numerous contributions to international books. I was honored to receive the National Research Award Matilde Ucelay in 2022 and a Leonardo Fellowship from the BBVA Foundation to develop AI-based early-warning systems for structural failures. I believe strongly in interdisciplinary collaboration as a path to solving complex engineering challenges.
