- PhD Candidate, Anthropology, Washington University in St. Louis
Bea Addis is an Anthropologist of Climate Change, Technology and Futures. Currently a McDonnell Academy PhD Candidate at Washington University (St Louis) and a Visiting Researcher at the Federal University of Goiás (Brazil). She is conducting research in the Brazilian Amazon Region about blockchain-based climate tech start ups, local and indigenous future imaginaries and carbon markets funded by the Wenner-Gren Foundation. She has also been researching the creation of new carbon markets at COP since COP26 in Glasgow and is a founding member of the Research and Independent NGOs (RINGOS) thematic group on Article 6.
Her engaged work includes working the the Federal University of Pará in Belém on education and capacitation for COP30, and running future imaginaries workshops for local community leaders and activists. Prior to academia she had a 10 year career in entrepreneurship as a New Entrepreneurs Foundation Alumni, was part of the founding team of a biomimicry company and an online marketplace for design and architecture, and is currently is part of a consultancy collective working to empower communities towards regenerative futures.
