Dr Bayes Ahmed is an Associate Professor in the Department of Risk and Disaster Reduction at University College London (UCL). His work examines how disasters, conflict, displacement, and environmental injustice shape the lives of frontline communities, particularly displaced and stateless populations.

Trained in urban planning, geospatial technologies, and disaster risk reduction, he combines field-based research, spatial analysis, community engagement, and policy translation. His research spans disaster risk reduction, landslide early warning, climate mobility, genocide diplomacy, conflict and migration, and Hydrocide, a concept he has developed to examine the political, ecological, and human consequences of water injustice.

Bayes is committed to producing research that moves beyond academic debate and supports practical, evidence-based decisions for communities, governments, and humanitarian actors.
