Athanasios Tsakonas

I am an Australian architect, writer, and educator with a professional career spanning Australia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. A founding partner of the Singapore based, award-winning practice, Tan + Tsakonas Architects, my research interest is in the architecture of the Commonwealth war cemeteries. My book In Honour of War Heroes: Colin St Clair Oakes and the Design of Kranji War Memorial (Singapore: Marshall Cavendish International, 2020), uncovered the architect responsible for many important war graves cemetery sites and memorials throughout South and Southeast Asia. I hold a B Arch Studies and B Arch degree from the University of Adelaide, and an MA (Urban Design) from the National University of Singapore. As of 2020, I joined the University of Melbourne, and run a Master of Architecture design studio introducing indigenous competencies to the students.
