Arturo Tejeda Torres

(He/him)

Born and raised in Mexico, I moved to Alberta five years ago as an international student to pursue a Ph.D. in Cultural, Social, and Political Thought at the University of Lethbridge. My research critically examines political and public discourse on gender-based violence protests, focusing on how polarizing narratives emerge and evolve, particularly in digital spaces such as social media platforms.

Throughout my academic journey, I have embraced the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion, working in various capacities such as a research assistant in Sociology and Women and Gender Studies, and as a sessional instructor at the University of Lethbridge and the University of Alberta Augustana Campus. In my teaching, I emphasize the importance of understanding structural issues and the impact of colonialism, capitalism, and patriarchy on different communities, particularly within the Canadian context.

I have actively participated in community and research projects addressing social inequalities, including a collaborative initiative on the digital experiences of marginalized youth, and contributed to projects exploring manifestations of violence and racism within institutional frameworks in Canada.

As a racialized immigrant, my dedication to creating inclusive and equitable spaces within academia is central to my work. I aim to amplify the voices of historically marginalized groups, ensuring they are heard and respected while fostering academic spaces that celebrate diversity and drive transformative change.
