- Adjunct Professor of Emergency Medicine, Emory University
Arthur Kellermann is a physician and epidemiologist who is a nationally recognized leader in health care delivery, public health and health policy. He most recently served as CEO of the VCU Health System and Senior Vice President for Health Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he oversaw the work of the University’s four health sciences schools and its College of Health Professions. Currently, Kellerman holds adjunct professor roles at Emory University and the Uniformed Services University for Health Sciences.
Before joining VCU in 2020, Dr. Kellermann was dean of the School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland, which serves as the leadership academy for our nation’s military health system and U.S. Public Health service. In addition to educating health professionals, USU conducts cutting-edge science and provides policy advice to the U.S. Department of Defense, the Defense Health Agency and allied agencies of the U.S. Government.
Prior to joining USU in 2013, Dr. Kellermann held the Paul O'Neill/Alcoa Chair in Policy Analysis at the RAND Corporation. There, he led numerous projects focusing on health policy and public health preparedness. Before that, he worked for 17 years at Emory University, where he established Emory’s Center for Injury Control in the University’s Rollins School of Public Health and served as founding chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine in its School of Medicine. He began his academic career at UT Memphis, where he was chief of UT’s division of emergency medicine, medical director of the Regional Medical Center at Memphis’ Emergency Department and medical director of the Memphis Fire Department’s EMS Bureau.
