Armin Chitizadeh

I'm a lecturer at the University of Sydney School of Computer Science. My journey in computer science began at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), where I earned my Bachelor's in Software Engineering with First Class Honours in 2015. I became interested in AI and so dove deeper into AI by completing my PhD at UNSW in 2020 under Professor Michael Thielscher's guidance.

Regarding my research interest - I'm all about improving how we teach computer science, creating more reliable AI system with the help of software engineering, smart AI agents, ethics in AI and exploring the potential of generative AI tools. I'm also proud to be a founding member of the Fintech AI Innovation Consortium (FAIC), where we're working on developing AI responsibly.

In the classroom, I've had the chance to design and teach a variety of cool subjects. These include Artificial Intelligence, Database Systems, Engineering Design in Software Engineering, and even a Data Science Capstone Project. My efforts in education were officially recognised when I was awarded Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy by Advance HE. One of the things I'm most passionate about is bringing the real world into the classroom. I love setting up collaborations between universities and industry, getting companies involved in teaching, sponsoring projects, and giving students hands-on experience. Recently, my students and I worked on a project at the Royal Hospital for Women that made a real difference - we improved their system accuracy and efficiency, saving nurses a whopping six hours every day by automating some of their record-keeping tasks. It's moments like these and the gratitude from my students that remind me why I love what I do!
