Antoni Hernández-Fernández

Antoni Hernández-Fernández has been an Associate Professor of Physics and Educational Science at the Institute of Education Sciences (ICE) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) since 2023, after serving as an Assistant Professor at the same institution from 2008 to 2023. He has also worked as a part-time teacher in Secondary Education and Vocational Training at the Terrassa School of Art and Design since 1997. He holds degrees in Physics (1997) and Linguistics (2003), and obtained his PhD in Cognitive Science (Linguistics) from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) in 2014. He was a founding member of the UPC ethics committee (2019-2026). His current research interests encompass education in a broad sense—particularly AI, creativity, gamification, project-based learning, and technology-enhanced education—as well as Quantitative Linguistics, i.e. the study of general patterns in communication systems (including Zipf’s law for word frequencies and Menzerath’s law).

He is an expert in science communication and the author of the first biography of Enrico Fermi in Spanish (RBA, 2012), which has been translated into four languages. He is also the editor of the first Catalan edition of Filosofia de la Tecnologia by Mario Bunge (2019), and co-author of more than 40 textbooks on technology, physics, and mathematics for secondary education, published by Castellnou, Pearson, Edelvives, Edebé, Aulaplaneta, and Casals. He is a board member of the Societat Catalana de Tecnologia (Institut d’Estudis Catalans), the Catalan Association for Scientific Communication (ACDIC), and the International Quantitative Linguistics Association (IQLA).
