Dr Annie Sparrow is Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Health and Deputy Director of the human rights programme.
She followed her Masters in Public Health at Harvard (2004) by field work in Haiti, health education and training of community leaders in northern Afghanistan, clinical work in Darfur and surveillance in infectious disease following Hurricane Katrina with other volunteers from HHI for the ARC.
She spent a year as director of UNICEF’s malaria program in Somalia for the Global Fund against Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Since moving to NYC in 2011, in addition to relicensing as a pediatrician she teaches humanitarian aid in complex emergencies and is engaged in research of proximal and distal health outcomes of refugees.
She is one of the signatories of an open letter published by 55 medical professionals urgently demanding that medical colleagues in Syria be allowed to treat patients.
