- Senior Research Fellow in Circular Economy, University of Leeds
I am a senior research fellow specialised in circular economy. I work on the interface of academic research and practice to facilitate participation processes for the transition towards a sustainable circular economy.
Within the circular economy space I focus on governance, business model innovation, renewables, network analysis, and participation process management. I actively collaborate with governmental organisations, companies and NGOs to investigate how circular economies can be realised.
I am the Technical Programme Manager for the Transforming Foundation Industries Research and Innovation Hub "TransFIRe". I am also heading the Yorkshire Circular Lab and the Wind Energy Lifecycle Sustainability group at the University of Leeds. I have completed research and impact projects to integrate circular economy principles into the offshore wind sector and the decommissioning of oil & gas infrastructure, and have led the Resource Recovery from Waste programme.
My PhD research focused on the co-evolution of industrial symbiosis - i.e. waste to resource innovation - with social networks and governance systems. Before that I completed an MSc in applied ecology and conservation with a specialisation in participatory governance.
Research interests:
1) Resource recovery from waste, circular economy theory, sustainable development, whole system change, integrated environmental, social and economic progress.
2) Participation process management, social network theories, governance dynamics, evolution of industrial systems and business model innovation.
3) Applying circular economy to the decommissioning of infrastructure in the waste (e.g. landfills), extractive (e.g. mining and oil & gas), energy (e.g. wind, solar) and transport (e.g. electric vehicles, rail) sectors.
