Anne Castles is Professor of Cognitive Science at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders at Macquarie University (CCD). She has been conducting research for the past 20 years on the nature, causes and treatment of different types of reading difficulties. She has also explored the process of normal reading development. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Science in Australia (FASSA), a member of the Council of Learning Difficulties Australia, and Chair of the Steering Committee of the NSW Centre for Effective Reading.
