I conduct epidemiological research specifically using already collected register data and the opportunity it offers to study health outcomes in various areas of public health and disease. I focus on chronic pain, lifestyle factors (tattoos and lasers), environmental toxins (PFAS), seasonal flu and covid-19.
I combine my research with work as an epidemiologist and Acting Head of Unit at HTA South, Region Skåne and the Southern Healthcare Region. In my regional work, I use the region's healthcare data to carry out epidemiological follow-ups and analyses of various diseases and care processes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked in the Regional Medical Crisis Management Group's group for analysis and forecasting to continuously produce decision material through forecasts for expected care needs linked to covid-19. Since the vaccinations were started, I have also worked in the analysis group for follow-up of vaccinations with a focus on groups we have difficulty reaching.
The Swedish national and regional health data registers are a good basis for high-quality epidemiological register studies. The research requires high competence in the content of data, structural and societal factors that affect the content and thus the usability of data as well as legal and ethical aspects of the same and thus collaboration between different professions and sciences.
Most of my research projects are carried out in well-structured interdisciplinary collaborations with international and national partners within and outside Lund University.
