Anna Piela

Anna Piela is a visiting scholar at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. As a sociologist of Islam, she has studied Islamic feminism, religious dress code, and racial politics of converstion to Islam.

She is the sole author of Muslim Women Online: Faith and Identity in a Virtual Space (Routledge, 2012) and Wearing the Niqab: Muslim Women in the UK and US (Bloomsbury Academic, 2021). Her most recent book, Confronting Islamophobia in the Church: Liturgical Tools for Justice, was published in 2026 by Judson Press.
