Anna Leander is Professor of International Relations at the Geneva Graduate Institute. She previously held tenured professorships at the Institute of PUC-Rio (Brazil), the Copenhagen Business School (Denmark), the University of Southern Denmark, the CEU (Budapest Hungary). She has been affiliated to Institutes of Advanced Studies in Germany, Italy and the US. Anna has a longstanding interest in developing anthropological approaches in International Relations and in exploring the commercial politics of security. Her current research focuses on the politics of commercial politics of digital security technologies and is carried out in the context of the collaborative The Future of Humanitarian Design project she is a principal investigator for. Anna’s research recently appeared in journals such as Journal of European Public Policy, Global Studies Quarterly and Science, Technology & Human Values. Anna has contributed to the work and development of professional associations, publications and (journals and book series). She currently co-edits Voices in International Relations (Oxford University Press). Anna has taken responsibility for evaluating and developing educational programs at all levels in her various home institutions. Anna has held positions on research councils and funding boards. She has also contributed to the work of academic associations including the ISA and the EISA. Anna has a longstanding engagement with professionals, activists and their associations in her areas of work.
