Anna Lavis is an Associate Professor in Medical Anthropology at the University of Birmingham, UK, where she leads an extensive programme of research into online harms. Its focuses have ranged from exploring what primary school aged children do and see online, to investigating content on self-harm and suicide and that pertaining to eating disorders, body image and 'wellness', and exploring the harms and draws of the 'manosphere'. Anna sits on Meta's 'Eating Disorders and Body Image Global Experts Advisory Board' and has worked closely with key stakeholders and policymakers to shape the design and implementation of the UK Online Safety Act.
