- Farmer, Scientist, Storyteller, Australian National University
Anika is a farmer, scientist and storyteller.
She is a passionate advocate for sustainable farming, environmental conservation and climate change action. Hailing from her family’s sheep station near Broken Hill, far western NSW, it was the impact of decade-long Millennium drought on her farm that spurred her interest in climate change, and how to ensure sustainable and vibrant farming landscapes into the future.
Anika is an agricultural science researcher, communicator and works in international agricultural development. She is a founding director of Farmers for Climate Action, a movement that puts farmers on the frontlines of climate change at the centre of climate solutions. She writes frequently on her own website Climate Wise Agriculture, and is a prominent youth voice in rural Australia with the Youth Voices Leadership Team.
With a keen interest in communicating how farmers are tackling our greatest global challenges – Anika uses her scientific background and lived on-farm experience to engage a wide audience. In addition to a large social media following, Anika appears frequently on radio, in newspapers and magazines, and on television. With persistent energy to spread awareness to a wide audience, Anika engages people to the farming story with warmth, honesty and compelling storytelling.
