- Research Fellow, Lancaster University
I'm a research fellow in the Lancaster Environment Centre, at Lancaster University. My research focuses on experiments in democracy, environment-society relations, and the interfaces between different knowledges. My interests are interdisciplinary and impact-oriented, building on my track record beyond academia. Before embarking on my PhD in 2014 I spent 15 years working in the voluntary sector for social justice and environmental NGOs. I have extensive experience of community participation and influencing public policy and decision-making, through both conventional and innovative governance structures. Recent research projects have focused on Neighbourhood Planning in England, local authority responses to the need for rapid climate action, and using organic wastes safely as secondary nutrient sources for a more sustainable agriculture system. My academic approach is informed by Science and Technology Studies and the idea of public sociology.
