Andrew Prevett is a PhD candidate within the Open Door Initiative at Flinders University, where he investigates governance and institutional culture in Australia’s veteran non-profit sector. A practitioner-scholar with more than two decades of experience across the Australian Army and state law enforcement, his research examines how institutional systems, professional cultures, and gendered dynamics shape identity and well-being. By prioritising knowledge translation, he seeks to drive practical reform across human services, interrogating systemic obstacles ranging from agency fragmentation and clinical referral pathways to the emerging ethical implications of AI.

Beyond his doctoral work, Andrew serves as a co-investigator on the Australian Research Council project ‘Historical and Contemporary Dimensions of Veteran Suicide: 1914–2023’ and as the international research lead on a tri-nation collaboration involving Australia, the US, and Canada examining veterans’ self-perceptions of well-being. His applied impact includes founding and chairing the National Open Door Symposium to provide a national platform for postgraduate research on veteran transition. He has also contributed to commissioned projects for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Veterans SA, and the Port Adelaide Football Club, alongside the design, delivery, and implementation of a military cultural competency training package for staff at the University of New South Wales.
