- Lecturer in Sports Coaching, University of Stirling
I describe myself as a ‘pracademic’, a coaching practitioner with an academic approach to solving ‘real world’ coaching problems.
Prior to my appointment in November 2015, I was a coaching and education officer at British Cycling, working on diverse projects at both participation and high-performance levels. I also worked as a sport and exercise scientist (physiology) at the sportscotland Institute of Sport, across numerous sports.
I am a British Cycling coach education tutor, a Chartered Scientist and an active professional member of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES).My coaching expertise lies within endurance sports and I am an active cycling and triathlon coach working in a grass-roots club as well as supporting a few high-performance athletes.
My areas of expertise guide my pragmatic research philosophy. Specifically, I am interested in coaching knowledge, how coaches learn and how to research can be used to develop more effective coaches.
